"Just days after trading longtime ace Roy Oswalt to Philadelphia, the Astros took a step toward solidifying the future of their starting rotation by signing pitcher Brett Myers to a multiyear contract extension on Sunday.
The Astros and Myers reached an agreement that will guarantee the righthander $21 million through the 2012 season. It includes a club option for 2013 which, if exercised, would guarantee him $28 million.
The contract includes performance incentives that could raise the total value to $29.5 million. The club option can become vested based on Myers' 2012 performance. The contract will pay Myers $7 million in 2011, $11 million in 2012 and $10 million in 2013 if the club option is exercised. It includes a $3 million buyout that can be exercised after 2012 and a $2 million signing bonus that replaces the buyout on Myers' current deal. "
