"Cornerback and special-teams ace Jarrett Bush surprised the Green Bay Packers once with his marketability in free agency and there's a good chance he'll do it again come March.
The Packers, according to Bush, have made no attempt to negotiate a new contract and keep him away from unrestricted free agency.
"I'm definitely not afraid of the market," Bush said. "It all depends if they want to bring me back or not."
In March 2009, the Packers let Bush test the waters of restricted free agency and the Tennessee Titans floored them with a three-year, $4.5 million offer containing a $1 million signing bonus. Three days later, the club retained his services by matching it.
Since then, Bush has become even better on special teams and a more competent player in the secondary. His second-quarter interception of Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger was one of the red-letter plays in the 45th Super Bowl, and he has made two more picks this season as the dime back.
It's highly unlikely any team would pay the 27-year-old Bush to become a starting cornerback. However, it's possible some club would pay him between $2.5 million to $3 million on a per-year average to be its nickel back and leader on special teams.
"Why not?" cornerback Tramon Williams said. "I don't think there's a special-teams guy out there that's doing what he's doing, and I see a completely different guy on (defense). Just with his energy on the field. His attitude. Everything about him."
