As if in the snow, Roy sets his image

"Had they opened Jerry's roof, and had winter dusted the football field with snow, they would have recreated a Thanksgiving memory. Subbing for Leon Lett, and sliding similarly into infamy, would be someone who fully understands what he has done.

This is what makes it even harder for Roy Williams.

These Cowboys are nothing like Lett's. The best the current ones can do this season is break even. The Cowboys of 1993 were heading to their second consecutive Lombardi Trophy.

Lett also made a mental blunder then, ? diving in the snow against the Dolphins to turn a dead ball into a live one. Williams, in contrast, simply fumbled Thursday.

But this wasn't just any fumble, and it didn't happen to just another Cowboy. It happened to someone who has had a dark cloud hovering over the star on his helmet.

Williams has represented the worst in Jerry Jones, from the trade to the contract. But Williams has handled this well, often with a smile. He's been the most likable and approachable Cowboy these past few years, and he remained in character Thursday. Then, he took the blame for the loss.

But the cloud remains, and it was there in the opener this season. Then, in Washington, Williams apparently caught the game-winner as time expired - only to have a holding call erase it."
