"Jason Kidd is on the flight with the Mavericks to Washington as we blog. But he won't stay with the team long.

Kidd will take part in the visit to the White House Monday morning, but when the team departs for Detroit and Tuesday night's game, Kidd will return to Dallas to continue to rehab on his back.

"Rehab and a little rest,'' he said after the Mavericks' practice today. He also explained how the lower back injury happened. He said he was trying to box out San Antonio center DaJuan Blair for a rebound.

"It wasn't on purpose. He was leaning on me and I was trying to box him out,'' Kidd said. "It just aggravated it.''"
