"Magglio Ordoñez has replaced Victor Martinez at DH since Martinez went on the disabled list last week. By serving as the DH, Ordoñez might be recovering faster from his sore right ankle than if he were standing and running at his usual station in rightfield.
He also might be getting to play more games. After he started only about half the games before Martinez was hurt, Ordoñez has now started five straight games at DH. The Tigers have had two open dates in that streak, but it's the first time this season he has started more than two straight games.
"Magglio on Sunday felt better than he had all year," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Tuesday. "You never like having someone on the DL, so you live with that. But it (Martinez's absence) has given Ordoñez a chance to get at-bats every day and get his swing going."
Ordoñez is hitting .200, with one RBI in 50 at-bats. Only 10 of those at-bats had come with a runner in scoring position."
