Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta is set to miss the first six weeks of the season after sustaining a torn quadricep.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger revealed this morning the vice-captain would undergo a scan after picking up a thigh injury in training.

It was hoped the procedure would flag up a slight strain ruling him out for a few days.

But the results have shown a tear meaning the midfielder is likely to miss over a month of the new season.
