Gonzalo Higuain's dad has insisted Arsenal's £22million bid to sign the striker is inching closer.

The Gunners have been in talks with the 25-year-old marksman's club, Real Madrid for several weeks with Juventus initially rivalling their interest before signing Carlos Tevez.

Arsenal are now poised to seal a switch that will break the north Londoners' transfer record.

Higuain's dad and agent Jorge told Fox Sports Argentina: "We have been given permission by Real Madrid to negotiate with Arsenal.
