Arsenal’s board have been forced to rethink their hunt for a successor to Arsene Wenger as many of the squad dislike top target Mikel Arteta, according to reports.

The Gunners are in miserable form at the moment, losing their last four matches in a row, and their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season are evaporating fast.

Wenger’s position at the club looks increasingly untenable, though the veteran Frenchman intends to see out the remainder of his contract which expires in 2019.
