Express Sport understands West Brom are tracking Carvalho, who is expected to leave Sporting this summer.

But Italian TV outlet Sport Mediaset say Arsenal and Manchester City are also eyeing the ace.

The Baggies face a major struggle to land the 25-year-old as two of the Premier League’s big boys wade into the reckoning.

It is thought Carvalho will fetch a transfer fee of just over £30million (€35m) at the end of the season.

For Baggies manager Tony Pulis that would mean shattering the club’s transfer record.

However, Saido Berahino’s £12m sale to Stoke in January means Pulis does have funds to play with.

Arsenal have been linked with Carvalho before but last summer the Gunners opted to move for Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka instead of the Portugal international.
