Arsenal and Manchester City have both declared an interest in signing former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra in January.

Diarra, who spent time at the Gunners in the 07/08 season before leaving for Portsmouth after just five months, is currently at Lokomotiv Moscow.

The 28-year-old moved from Portsmouth to Madrid in 2009 and then made a big-money move to Anzhi Makhachkala in 2012.

But he was one of the casualties of the Russian clubs change in philosophy earlier this season and was shipped out to Lokomotiv in August.

However, reports in Russia suggest that Arsenal and City have both made enquiries about bringing the French international back to England in January.

Diarra is thought to be content with life in Russia but also tempted by the prospect of a return to a stronger league.

That desire may rule out a move to PSG or Monaco, both of whom were linked with the player when he left Anzhi, but the player's wages could still prove an obstacle to making a Premier League return.
