"Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson has considered giving Chris Young a day off on more than one occasion to help the center fielder snap a slump that has dipped his batting average under .250, but there's always something about Young's demeanor that prevented Gibson from parking him on the bench for a game.

"He does not want a day off," Gibson said. "He doesn't want to run from it for one second, and he understands by what happened (Thursday) night, that's why. He just wants to go out there and play just in case he can help his team win."

Young did just that Thursday, delivering a three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning against the Houston Astros to guide the Diamondbacks to yet another come-from-behind victory. Before that hit, Young had gone 114 at-bats without a home run. Despite the slide, Young has maintained his confidence.

"He talks a lot; he chirps a lot, and the way I look at that he does it because he's just affirming to himself," Gibson said. "I used to do the same. You have to talk the talk regardless of what's going on, because you're just affirming a positive thing in your mind.""
