Angels waste another good outing from Haren

"Shin Soo Choo was not who the Angels wanted to see with a bat in his hands, score tied in the ninth inning and two runners on.

Prior to Monday's game at Angel Stadium, the Indians' Choo was 14-for-30 lifetime at Angel Stadium – the second highest batting average (.467) of anyone ever at the park.

A one-for-five night moved Choo down to fourth on the all-time list, but that one hit registered in ways that were more important. It won Cleveland the game 3-2.

After getting the first two outs of a tied game in the ninth, closer Fernando Rodney gave up a two-strike double to Michael Brantley. Then he hit Asdrubal Cabrera with a fastball, setting the stage for the Choo's heroics.

Choo lofted a soft line drive into right, easily scoring Brantley from second for the eventual game-winning run.

"I don't think there's anything particular to the park," Mike Scioscia said. "We got him out the first four times."

Choo's single spoiled another solid outing from Angels starter Dan Haren, who allowed just two runs in 7.0 innings.

Haren's only trouble came in the sixth inning when he walked three batters in a row, including a four-pitch walk to Luis Vilbuena with the bases loaded.

"I don't think I've ever done it," Haren said.

Haren's had 26 starts this season with less than three walks, making the sixth inning an oddity."
