The Angels lost arguably their most valuable free agent on Wednesday, when Yusmeiro Petit reportedly agreed to a two-year, $10-million deal with the Oakland A’s.

Petit, 33, signed a minor-league deal with the Angels just before spring training, and he delivered a 2.76 ERA over 91-1/3 innings, including a major-league leading 87-1/3 innings out of the bullpen. Aside from his effectiveness, his ability to pitch multiple innings out of the bullpen made him one of their most important pitchers.

General Manager Billy Eppler said early in the winter his goal was to have at least a couple relievers capable of multiple innings in 2018.
