Jered Weaver breezed through six innings Wednesday night, needing 78 pitches to blank the San Francisco Giants, and after retiring the side in order in the sixth, it appeared he had a little wiggle room under the 85-pitch limit set for him in his first game back from the disabled list.

But the Angels' ace, sidelined since suffering a lower-back strain on May 28, knew better than to lobby Manager Mike Scioscia to return to the Angel Stadium mound for the seventh.

"I knew there was no talking to him on that one, so I just bowed my head and walked past him," Weaver said. "It was a little weird. I was like, 'Man, this is bull.' But at the same time, I knew it was going to happen."
