Angels' Hunter eager to return following suspension

"Angels right fielder Torii Hunter returns to the lineup today, having served his four-game suspension for his tirade and ejection Friday in Detroit.

"I feel like an outcast," Hunter joked before Tuesday's game against Kansas City. "I served my sentence, I've got 24 hours until my release. The first thing I'm going to do is eat a hamburger."

Hunter could make light of the situation because the team has played well without him, rebounding from an embarrassing sweep at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles last week.

"The guys are holding it down, they're playing well," he said. "I was able to let my body heal and let my mind relax a little bit."

Hunter wouldn't disclose where he watched the games from, only saying he followed the rules and was not in the clubhouse or dugout.

He also said he didn't watch from owner Arte Moreno's suite.

"No, not the owner's box, they've got beer in there," he said. "I don't want to be up in a suite when the team is working their butts off, and I'm up there eating popcorn. I don't want to be `that' guy."

Hunter will resume his new role as the club's right fielder, the nine-time Gold Glove winner volunteering to move there to allow rookie Peter Bourjos to play center.

"We talked about it last year," Hunter said of a conversation with manager Mike Scioscia about eventually moving to right. "I knew one day I'd go to right field, I just didn't know it would be that soon. "
