"If the Angels can just get to October, the top of their rotation is going to be dangerous. Dan Haren is doing his part to carry them there.
Haren threw a one-hitter to snap the Indians' eight-game winning streak, as the Angels beat Cleveland, 2-0, at Angels Stadium. It was the first one-hit shutout by an Angels starter since July 2006.
The Indians' streak was their longest since a 10-game string in August 2008.
Haren arguably one-upped Jered Weaver's 15-strikeout performance Sunday. No Indians reached second base. He struck out eight and walked two. He retired the first batter every inning and shut down the final eight batters he faced.
Only a soft line drive by Shin-Soo Choo in the fourth inning kept Haren from throwing his first no-hitter.
"I'll never throw a no-hitter," he said jokingly afterward. "It was actually a good pitch. They squared up quite a few balls, but that wasn't one of them."
Together, Weaver and Haren have now combined for a 6-0 record and 0.82 ERA. The rest of the Angels' pitching staff: 0-5, 4.43.
Haren needed to be good, as the Angels offense continued to struggle."
