Garrett Richards added another chapter to his breakout season, tossing seven innings in the Angels’ 3-0 victory today over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Richards improved to 4-0 and lowered his ERA to 2.42, making his first start of the season without a walk. He gave up five hits and struck out eight. He escaped a tight spot in the sixth, when the Phillies had runners at second and third with one out for the heart of the order, but he struck out Ryan Howard and got Marlon Byrd on popup.

Ernesto Frieri and Joe Smith worked the final two innings to finish off the Angels fifth victory in six games on the trip.

The Angels scored single runs in each of the first three innings, although they could have done more damage. They left nine runners on base and were 3 for 15 with runners in scoring position.

Albert Pujols, who had been 1 for 25 before the game, had two hits and scored two runs.
