The Tigers still can't beat the Los Angeles Angels.

Despite fine pitching from starter Doug Fister, the Tigers couldn't generate any offense themselves and lost, 3-1, in 10 innings Thursday at Comerica Park.

The Angels scored two 10th-inning runs off reliever Phil Coke (0-5), on an Albert Pujols run-scoring double and sacrifice fly from Josh Hamilton, completing a three-game sweep.

And a six-game sweep of the regular-season series.

Both starting pitchers Thursday afternoon turned in outstanding performances while going seven innings.

Fister allowed seven hits and one earned run, striking out four and walking one.

Angels starter Jered Weaver was just as good. In seven innings, Weaver allowed four hits and one run, while striking out six. He retired the final 11 Tigers he faced.

The Tigers were held to seven hits overall. They had two runners on in the eighth inning with one out, but Angels reliever Michael Kohn struck out Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera to end the inning.

Joaquin Benoit survived a nervous ninth inning by striking out Erick Aybar with runners on second and third base in a hard-fought, nine-pitch at-bat.
