"There was someone bearing a striking resemblance to the old Andruw Jones as White Sox pitchers and catchers officially reported for spring training.
The 10-time Gold Glove Award-winning center fielder arrived Saturday, well ahead of most of the Sox's position players. Jones reported in shape and with a strong determination to regain the full-time status he lost over the last two seasons.
"I know I have a lot of gas left in my tank to perform on a regular basis,'' Jones, 32, said on the eve of the first workout for pitchers and catchers at Camelback Ranch.
Jones' playing time likely would have been affected if Johnny Damon had reconsidered the Sox's offer, but Damon agreed to a one-year, $8 million contract with the Tigers on Saturday instead.
Jones said he wasn't bothered that the Sox pursued Damon -- nearly three months after Jones agreed to his $500,000 contract."
