Andruw Jones fighting to get out of slump

"Andruw Jones gave Texas Rangers fans a glimpse of his playing days with the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 8 when he homered three times against the Los Angeles Angels.

Since that day, in which Jones tied the Rangers' record for homers in a game, he's 2-for-25 and hitting .227 after going 1-for-3 in Tuesday night's 4-1 victory.

"I'm not hitting the ball the way I need to be hitting it," he said. "I had like 20 at-bats without getting a hit and probably like nine of them I hit right at people. But you can't have that as a excuse. It's just I'm going on a bad streak."

Jones was able to find some humor in his struggles Monday night against John Smoltz, his former teammate with Atlanta. He went 0-for-3 and got a text message after the game from Smoltz. It said, "Sorry for that lack of a fastball. I am trying to survive."

Jones doesn't have to worry about his survival with the Rangers. Despite the slide, he still has 14 home runs and 34 RBI. He also has the backing of manager Ron Washington."
