The Red Sox have serious concerns about closing before the season even begins.

Closer Andrew Bailey flew back to Boston from spring training to have his right thumb examined by team doctors yesterday. He was scheduled for a second opinion today with renowned hand surgeon Dr. Thomas Graham at the Cleveland Clinic, according to a major league source.

Graham performed Kevin Youkilis' thumb surgery in 2010. It's unclear the exact nature of Bailey's injury, or even how it occurred, but he could be headed to the operating table.
