Anderson says Browns didn't execute enough

"Not long after the Browns were humbled at home by the visiting Green Bay Packers on Sunday, embattled quarterback Derek Anderson waved rookie receiver Brian Robiskie over toward his locker.

The pair quietly chatted for a few minutes before going their separate ways.

Anderson could have been asking Robiskie about a second-quarter interception in which Anderson threw one way and Robiskie broke the other way, leaving cornerback Charles Woodson alone to grab the ball and return it 25 yards to set up a touchdown that gave the Packers a 21-3 lead.

Or perhaps Anderson was simply suggesting to the newcomer from Ohio State that he should stay positive and keep his head up.

Either way, Anderson started the game with the worst quarterback rating in the league at 41.7 percent, and his receivers (especially the two rookies) did little to help it, as the numbers went further south to 40.6 by the end of the game.

In all against the Packers, Anderson went 12-for-29 for 99 yards without a touchdown and the interception that came on the miscommunication play with Robiskie. Along with Mohamed Massaquoi, the two rookies combined to go 1-for-13 on balls Anderson threw their way.

''We didn't execute enough,'' Anderson said. ''We didn't take advantage of one-on-one when we had it.''

With the Browns facing a third-and-9 at the 28-yard line, Anderson zipped a pass toward the right sideline. But instead of turning toward the ball for the catch, Robiskie turned away from the ball, leaving it for Woodson to grab.

Although it appeared that Robiskie turned the wrong way, Anderson shouldered the blame.

''I threw it a little behind him,'' Anderson said. ''The safety sat outside and he came through and made a pretty good play. I could have thrown it a little farther inside and he would have broken it up, instead of intercepting it. It's frustrating trying to make a play and a player gets stuck opening inside.''

In the meantime, the fans at Cleveland Browns Stadium went from booing the host's offense early in the second quarter to chanting backup quarterback Brady Quinn's name before halftime."
