Amid Ines Sainz mess, Clinton Portis says female reporters are 'gonna want somebody' in locker room

"The NFL issued a statement on the treatment of TV Azteca reporter Ines Sainz at a Jets practice, condemning inflammatory comments Washington Redskins tailback Clinton Portis made on a radio show about the incident in which Sainz was subjected to lewd behavior by players.

"You put a woman and you give her a choice of 53 athletes, somebody got to be appealing to her," Portis said in an interview on The Mike Wise radio show in Washington. "You know, somebody got to spark her interest, or she's gonna want somebody. I don't know what kind of woman won't, if you get to go and look at 53 men's packages. And you're just sitting here, saying 'Oh, none of this is attractive to me.'"

When told of Portis' comments by the Daily News, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello offered a strong response, even as NFL investigators arrived at the team's facility to conduct interviews and gather information on the incident in which Sainz was subjected to catcalls, whistling and offensive comments both on the field and in the locker room.

"The comments are clearly inappropriate, offensive, and have no place in the NFL. We have contacted the Redskins and they will discuss the matter directly with Mr. Portis," Aiello said.

Portis, who admittedly had not heard of the details in Sainz's case before getting a brief recap from the radio host, has been known for outspoken comments throughout his career, but his candor in this case is being considered a look into the locker room mentality that some players have toward women reporters.

"For the woman, I think they make it so much that you can't interact and you can't be involved with athletes, you can't talk to these guys, you can't interact with these guys," Portis added."
