Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill had a little chat with forward Dylan Larkin to prepare the rookie for an even larger role.

In his search for more offense as the Wings prepared to host St. Louis tonight at Joe Louis Arena, Blashill tweaked his lines, putting 19-year-old Larkin with Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Tatar.

“They are three real good players,” Blashill said. “The one thing on that line that I’ve had a little talk with Dylan and I’ll have another talk with him about is, they’ve got to find a net-presence guy. Someone’s got to be in front of the net. It doesn’t always mean one guy — certainly Pavel has been willing to, Tats has been willing to. It’s kind of the way the situation arises; whoever is there has to be in front. We can’t have three guys standing on the outside, so Dylan has got to be aware of that, too.”

Larkin, who wasn’t available for comment, and Datsyuk have played together during 3-on-3 overtime, and Tatar often has played with Datsyuk, but the three haven’t been used on one line.

Tatar was looking forward to the experience of playing with Larkin. The two were tied for the team lead in goals with 14, and Larkin has been the team’s most consistent producer.
