Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols continues to recover from offseason knee surgery, as he ran the bases for the first time during an exhibition contest this spring yesterday, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.

Pujols underwent surgery on his right knee in October, and he's continued to rehab and recover throughout camp. He joined the Angels' lineup recently, but he's only appeared as the team's designated hitter so far. If he reached base, he had been lifted for a pinch runner.

But yesterday Pujols remained in the game and was allowed to run the bases. Mark Trumbo has been manning first base this spring, but the Angels are hoping to have Pujols as their regular at the position in 2013. Still, Trumbo affords the team the flexibility to use Pujols as their DH to start the season if need be.
