Seeds are out for the SWAC men's basketball tournament.

Alabama State, picked to finish seventh in the preseason, are seeded No. 3 in the tourney, which begins Tuesday in Houston, and Alabama A&M is a No. 5

The Hornets (18-11, 12-6), winners of three in a row, have a bye in the opening round and will face No. 6 Alcorn State (11-17, 8-8) Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

Alabama A&M (13-15, 10-8) will ride the wave against back-to-back wins against Jackson State and Grambling State, takes on No. 4 Arkansas-Pine Bluff (13-17, 10-7) Thursday at 8 p.m.

Defending champion Southern (La.), which is ineligible to participate in the NCAA tournament due to a low Academic Progress Rate, is the No. 1 seed in the tournament. The Jaguars face the winner of Tuesday's 8 p.m. No. 8 Prairie View A&M-No. 9 Mississippi Valley State.
