Here's how bad the noise was inside Mall of America field Sunday: On the Lions' third play from scrimmage, Vikings defensive end Jared Allen hit quarterback Matthew Stafford almost before left tackle Jeff Backus came out of his stance.

The reason — center Dominic Raiola snapped the ball on the wrong count.

"That wasn't anything but communication," Raiola said. "It was supposed to be a dummy count, and I didn't get it."

So while the rest of the offensive line waited for the right snap count to be called, the Vikings were barreling in and delivering the first sack of the year on Stafford. They got him five times — all from defensive ends who were beating Backus (twice), or Gosder Cherilus (once) or Corey Hilliard (twice).

"This is a very difficult place to play," coach Jim Schwartz said. "It's one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL, and the fans should be commended. It affected it early and in the fourth quarter. We put ourselves in a hole there."
