"Either Brett Favre sent images of a private part of his anatomy to former New York Jets employee Jenn Sterger or he didn't. You'll get no help from the NFL in finding out what really happened. Or didn't happen.
The NFL fined Favre $50,000 on Wednesday, but not because Commissioner Roger Goodell concluded the Minnesota Vikings quarterback had violated the league's workplace conduct policy while with the Jets. Goodell concluded Favre had stonewalled the league during its investigation.
Favre was fined because, as the league put it in a statement, he was "not candid" and there was a "failure to cooperate with the investigation in a forthcoming manner."
Rather than tap dancing around it, Goodell should have been more candid and forthcoming. He should have said whether Favre just sidestepped questions or flat-out lied.
If he lied, Favre got off easy with just a fine. And it's a relatively small fine. Now, $50,000 is a lot of money to most people. Favre reportedly is being paid more than $15 million from the Vikings this season. So $50,000 is more like pocket change to him and the financial equivalent of a slap on the wrist. "
