The last time Dale Sveum remembered seeing Chris Rusin was in Tempe, Ariz., against the Los Angeles Angels, which fit because the Cubs are holding open auditions that make it feel like spring training all over again.
That was April 1, four days before Opening Day, and all the rotation depth the front office built up has vanished.
Right now, the 2013 Cubs are counting on: Matt Garza, who hasn't thrown a baseball in weeks and was shut down for the rest of this season with an elbow injury; and Jeff Samardzija, who for all his gifts still hasn't done it for a full season at this level yet.
