"Rangers manager Ron Washington is optimistic third baseman Adrian Beltre will make his spring debut next week.

Washington said he's not concerned about Beltre missing opening day or starting the season on the disabled list. Washington said the team has no plans to work Beltre into games slowly by having him play in simulated games or minor league exhibitions.

"He's going into major league exhibitions," Washington said. "He's a major league player. He's not concerned about looking bad or not getting something done."

Beltre is out with a calf strain."
