Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright had the privilege of starting the 2014 MLB All-Star Game for the National League.

That also meant he had to pitch to Derek Jeter in Jeter's final All-Star Game.

Wainwright gave up a leadoff double to Jeter, then a triple to Mike Trout and a two-run home run to Miguel Cabrera. Wainwright struggled all inning long, yielding three runs in his only frame of work.

One other thing Wainwright struggled with: the idea of giving Jeter a hittable pitch on purpose.

By the eighth inning, Wainwright was backtracking. He tried to explain himself in an interview with FOX reporter Erin Andrews. Jeter's very smooth (naturally) response is at the end of the clip below.
