Adam 'Pacman' Jones checks into rehab center

"When NFL commissioner Roger Goodell placed Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones on an indefinite suspension Tuesday, one of the stipulations for a possible return was for him to undergo treatment for alcohol abuse.

Jones has taken the first step in the process, checking himself into an undisclosed alcohol treatment facility in the Dallas area, according to a source.

Jones, who missed the entire 2007 season for violations of the NFL's personal conduct policy, has been suspended for at least four games.

Goodell will review his case after the Cowboys' Nov. 16 game at Washington and then determine whether he will reinstate Jones or extend his suspension.

Goodell has said there is a possibility the suspension could be permanent.

According to the NFL, Goodell will base his decision on Jones' ability to comply with the NFL and the Cowboys treatment plans. He will also be evaluated by NFL-mandated clinical experts.

The suspension came after an alcohol-related incident between Adam Jones and his bodyguard Tommy Smith at the Joule Hotel in Dallas last Tuesday when police were called to intervene.

In a letter to Jones, Goodell called it a continuation of "a disturbing pattern of behavior and clearly inconsistent with the conditions I set for your continued participation in the NFL.""
