"Adam Jones' comeback is over for this season after the Bengals placed him on injured reserve on Tuesday. The team also announced that it has released tight end Dan Coats and re-signed J.P. Foschi.

Jones suffered a herniated disc in his neck during the fourth quarter of Sunday's 39-32 loss in Atlanta. The fourth-year player ended up getting the start in his hometown due to Johnathan Joseph's ankle injury and had a forced fumble and 59-yard runback on the recovery for a touchdown to give the Bengals a 25-24 lead late in the third quarter.

The touchdown was part of a run of 22 straight points by the Bengals, who trailed 24-3 at halftime. He also had a 45-yard kick return that was called back due to a holding penalty on Coats.

In five games, Jones had 13 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. He also averaged 6.6 yards on five punt returns (his 27-yarder against Tampa Bay is the longest of the season) and 19.1 yards on seven kick returns.

After being the subject of much scrutiny following his signing right before the start of the on field coaching sessions in May, the coaching staff had been pleased with Jones' work ethic and playing in the Bengals' scheme.

Prior to this season Jones had not played two of the past three seasons. He was suspended by the league in 2007 for a run of off-field incidents while with the Tennessee Titans and was jobless in '09 after a disappointing season in Dallas. He has one year remaining on his contract.

With Jones being placed on injured reserve, the Bengals still have an open spot on the roster, which is expected to be filled today. One possible option, especially with Coats' release, is fullback Chris Pressley, who was in for a tryout on Tuesday.

Pressley was signed as a college free agent by the Bengals last year and was on their practice squad before being signed by Tampa Bay midway through the season. He was released by the Bucs last week."
