"A year to the day after injuring his neck in a game at Atlanta, Bengals cornerback Adam Jones was back practicing with teammates.
On Monday, the team cleared Jones to return to practice on a roster exemption. Jones was unable to play in the Bengals first six games after he was placed on the physically unable to perform list to start the season.
When Jones returned to practice, it began a three-week roster exemption. He can be added to the active roster at any time during this period.
"I competed good today and it was good to get back out there in the swing of things and enjoy the competition," Jones said. "Physically I felt there. Mentally it was different out there with the calls but the coaches have done a good job preparing me."
The Bengals could add Jones to the roster for Sunday's game at Seattle and not have to release anyone until next week. Cedric Benson is on a one-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy, which means the team has an open spot on the 53.
Besides working on defensive back drills, Jones also did some special teams drills by fielding kickoffs."
