"A week ago, as they were being swept by the Baltimore Orioles, the Angels seemed to have no fight left in them.
But Wednesday afternoon, there was plenty of fight to be found in their clubhouse, as they watched ESPN's "SportsCenter" countdown of the "Top 10 Baseball Brawls." The video highlights drew much hooting, hollering and amateur commentary.
The good cheer carried over from the field where Bobby Abreu's solo home run in the 10th inning gave the Angels a 2-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
It was the Angels' first walkoff win since back-to-back game-winners on Memorial Day weekend, which is also when Kendry Morales' season ended.
The victory completed a sweep of the three-game series with the Royals and gave the Angels their fifth win in the past six games. Pending the outcome of the Rangers' game Wednesday night, the Angels have cut either 1 ½ or 2 ½ games from the Rangers' lead in the AL West. That lead had swelled to 10 games over the Angels following that sweep in Baltimore.
"We're not playing perfect games, but we're doing enough offensively and we're pitching well," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "I think it (credit for the surge) goes to the pitching side. We're scoring enough runs to support our pitching side."
