" Aaron Harang's line was not what he wanted.
"The main thing is he won, and we won," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "His line doesn't mean anything if you don't win the game."
The Reds beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-5 at Great American Ball Park.
Harang (3-5) went 6 1/3 innings, allowing five runs (four earned).
Harang also drove in a run and scored a run – all the way from first on a double, no less.
"I was pretty spent after that," Harang said. "I haven't run the bases like that in a long time. I told (Orlando) Cabrera not to expect that again."
Outfielder Drew Stubbs was the hitting star. He went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBI. His average is up to .218.
"I got some good pitches tonight and put good swings on them," he said.
The Reds moved into a tie for first place in the National League Central with the St. Louis Cardinals, who were idle. It was the Reds' seventh win in the last 10 games.
The Reds had to come back from a two-run to win.
Ronny Cedeno took Harang out to left for a two-run homer in the second. Three of Cedeno's four homers have come against the Reds. Harang has allowed 11 home runs in 10 starts.
The Reds cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second. Jonny Gomes reached on third baseman Delwyn Young's two-base error. Stubbs got him in with a two-out double.
The Reds took the lead in the fourth. Gomes and Jay Bruce started the inning with walks. Stubbs singled to load the bases.
Ryan Hanigan hit into a 6-4-3 double play, scoring Gomes.
"That could have been a rally killer," Baker said.
But Harang then singled to drive in Gomes.
"Bake told me to take a pitch," Harang said. "Then it got to 3-0, he told me to take again. Then he let me swing away."
Harang scored from first on Cabrera's double. "
