The A’s aren’t involved in any Giancarlo Stanton talks, of course - the frugal club isn’t about to add hundreds of millions of dollars to their payroll.

That’s not to say that Stanton’s eventual destination won’t impact Oakland, however. The A’s are watching the proceedings closely. Not to see how their cross-Bay rivals do, but to gauge the remaining market for outfielders, because Oakland is on the hunt for a right-handed hitting corner outfielder.

The best scenario for the A’s would be St. Louis to land Stanton, because that would make Stephen Piscotty available in a deal - and the Cardinals and A’s discussed Piscotty earlier this year, when St. Louis had interest in Sonny Gray.
