Cliff Lee has made a small, but positive, step in his recovery from a strained left elbow.

Lee made 35-40 tosses Tuesday in what he called “a light throwing” session. It was the first time he’d thrown since he made his last start May 18. He was placed on the disabled list two days later with a strained flexor-pronator tendon.

Lee had been making slow progress over the last couple of weeks, but was held back from throwing because the soreness he’d experienced after his May 18 start had not completely dissipated.

The pitcher was asked Wednesday whether he was still feeling any sensation in the elbow. He thought about the question for a second or two before answering.
