A bittersweet ending for Redd

"The day Ray Allen left the scene in Milwaukee was a sad one for nearly everyone involved.

It even was that way for the man who eventually replaced him as the franchise's shooting guard and marquee player, Michael Redd.

"That was a tough day," Redd recalled of discovering the news in February 2003 that Allen had been traded to Seattle. "But lo and behold, it wound up being one of the best days because it opened the door for me to start my career.

"We talk about it until this day, me and Ray. He's gone on to do great things, obviously. But that was a day that kind of shifted everything for me."

Now the 31-year-old Redd is facing his own departure from the only pro basketball franchise he has ever known. He played 15 minutes and scored two points in the Bucks' 93-86 victory over Toronto at the Bradley Center on Monday night, knowing it likely was his last home game with the team.

The Bucks went on a 15-0 run in the fourth quarter to overtake the depleted Raptors, who had just eight available players.

John Salmons scored 24 points, Brandon Jennings added 21 and Drew Gooden had 19 to help the Bucks (34-47) end their home schedule on a winning note.

Redd is at the end of the six-year, $91 million contract he signed in the summer of 2005, the deal that often made him the target of angry fans when the Bucks fell short of expectations.

And he is coming off successive major surgeries on his left knee that limited his involvement with the franchise in the past two seasons. He was out for more than 14 months before returning to the lineup in Charlotte two weeks ago.

Redd admitted his knee injuries shook him at the moment he should have been at the peak of his career."
