"On Sunday night, as some 49ers fans fired off death threats to Kyle Williams on Twitter, 7-year-old Owen Shure of Los Angeles began his own correspondence to San Francisco's wide receiver.
Instead of anger, though, Owen's words were filled with empathy.
"Dear Mr. Williams," the first-grader began writing through tear-filled eyes to the goat of the NFC Championship Game, "We just watched the Playoff game. I feel really bad for you but I wanted to tell you that you had a great season. you sould be very proud, so I wanted to say thank you."
Those words were in stark contrast to the hate-filled messages Williams received after his two fumbles led to the Giants' final 10 points in their 20-17 overtime win over San Francisco.
Wrote one fan, via Twitter, to the single, 23-year-old Williams: "I hope you, youre wife, kids and family die, you deserve it"
Wrote another: "HOPE U RUN n2 A BULLET DA WAY U RAN INTO DAT BALL..."
Wrote Owen, in concluding his letter: " I am your #1 FAN!"
The dichotomy - cruelty from adults and compassion from a kid - has resonated far and wide since an article about Owen's response appeared on the Huffington Post on Thursday."
