The 49ers can check in on old friend Alex Smith in Week 2 of the preseason, as they visit the Chiefs the week of August 15-18. The NFL released teams' exhibition opponents on Thursday, with some dates and times yet to be determined.
The 49ers open the preseason at Candlestick Park against the Broncos sometime from Aug. 8 to 11, and will close out the exhibition season at home against the Vikings and in San Diego against the Chargers.
The game against the Vikings will be nationally televised on NBC on Aug. 25. The other games will be televised on KPIX Channel 5.
Smith, who got hurt and lost his starting quarterback job to Colin Kaepernick last season, was traded to the Chiefs last month. It will be the first preseason matchup between the 49ers and Chiefs since 2003.
The 49ers' exhibition series against the Raiders remains on hold after incidents of fan violence at the 2011 game at Candlestick Park.
The Raiders open the preseason at home against the Cowboys in the Aug. 8-12 slot. Oakland then has a home game against the Bears (Aug. 22-25) sandwiched between road games at the Saints and Seahawks.
