With seven picks to burn on the draft's final day, the 49ers deployed their first one Saturday on Louisiana Tech wide receiver Quinton Patton, then took South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore three picks later.
Lattimore was one of college football's most electric players before being felled by knee injuries.
Lattimore was considered a first-round talent before sustaining his second knee injury in as many years.
After a sensational freshman season (1,197 yards, school-record 19 touchdowns), Lattimore sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament as a sophomore. Last Oct. 27, he tore three of four knee ligaments.
Patton, selected in the fourth round (No. 128 overall), should provide a deep-threat presence with his 4.48 speed in the 40-yard dash.
