"When coach Rex Ryan said the Jets would want Braylon Edwards back "for what we can pay" he may have been talking about the change in his pockets.
The talented, but troubled receiver, signed a one-year deal with the 49ers on Thursday. Original reports said the deal was worth $3.5 million, but CSNBayArea reports that the contract is worth $1 million and that Edwards gets $3.5 million only if he catches 90 passes and makes Pro Bowl. Those are difficult incentives to reach.
And it means the Jets must have considered Plaxico Burress, who they signed to a one-year $3.017 million deal, an upgrade over Edwards. That's despite the fact that Edwards is five years younger and Burress is coming off a two-year prison stint. Or that they were unwilling to deal with the receiver's off-the-field problems."
