Charlie Strong and his staff received good news on Tuesday. The Texas Longhorns gained their eighth commitment of the 2015 recruiting class when Rockwall-Heath safety Deshon Elliott committed this afternoon.

Elliott, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound prospect, visited Texas for the Longhorns’ first junior day last month and told Horns247 that he “absolutely loved it” and that the staff made quite the impression on him. Only two days later Elliott told Horns247 Texas was his leader, but he had other schools in his favorites list.

Those programs were Texas A&M, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Oklahoma, who in the meantime had offered and attempted to recruit the standout defender heavily. Elliott even visited Texas A&M a week after visiting Texas and said that the Aggies had closed the gap somewhat and were now his No. 2 school.
