The Chicago Cubs has selected University of San Diego junior Kris Bryant with the No. 2 pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft.

Bryant raised his draft status this year by putting up some monster numbers at the college level. The third baseman hit .340/.500/.860 this season with 31 home runs, personally out-homering 228 teams of the 296 teams in Division I baseball. Bryant also showed solid plate discipline, walking 62 times with 40 strikeouts, but his long swing may lead to a few more strikeouts at the next level.

The third baseman is tall and thin, so he still has some room to put on more muscle. Some scouts believe that he will need to move to a corner outfield position as he continues to mature.

Bryant does have the option to return to San Diego for his senior season he fails to come to an agreement with the Cubs, which gives him some negotiating leverage.
