Ronald Koeman is facing a fight to stop Jose Fonte joining the St Mary’s exodus after rejecting a second bid from Cardiff for the defender.

The Bluebirds are looking to replace Steven Caulker, after selling their skipper to QPR this week.

They have had offers of £3m and £3.25m for the Portuguese ace rebuffed by Saints, who are desperate not to lose any more big names this summer.

But Fonte is believed to be unhappy at the way the south coast side have handled negotiations over a new contract.

The former Crystal Palace star’s current deal expires next summer and while the Saints have indicated they are willing to sanction a two-year extension he is yet to hold any formal talks.
