Manchester United have switched their attentions to Seville left-back Alberto Moreno – with Leighton Baines due to sign a new deal at Everton this week.

David Moyes’s scouts have been closely watching the 21-year-old Moreno, who has just broken into Spain’s national team, with a view to a summer bid.

Moyes had two offers for England star Baines rejected by his old club in the summer, the second of which valued the full-back at £15million.

But Baines, 29, will now sign a new Goodison Park £75,000-a-week contract this week, likely to be for three-and-a-half years.

Baines has only 18 months left on his existing deal and it is a major coup for Everton boss Roberto Martinez to tie him to a long-term agreement.
