Cardinals lefthander Jaime Garcia will leave for Birmingham, Ala., Monday to visit the Andews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center, founded by noted surgeon Dr. James Andrews. But Garcia, who has had a recurrence of shoulder discomfort in spring training, said this is not a bad thing.

Garcia said he would undergo two days of tests at the clinic, as recommended by Andrews, who examined Garcia a couple of weeks ago in Pensacola, Fla.

"I'm very excited the way I feel right now," said Garcia, who will be back in camp on Wednesday. "This is the opposite of a setback.

"I'm going there to see if there are some things I can add to my program to remain healthy. I'm willing to do anything that's going to help me.

"I'm very positive about where I am and, as soon as the trainers give the green light _ Wednesday, Thursday _ I'm ready to start throwing. This is something good, to get things rolling."
