The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Daniel Zaar to a three-year Entry Level contract, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Zaar, 20, was Columbus’ fifth pick, 152nd overall, at the 2012 NHL Draft.

A native of Helsingborg, Sweden, Zaar spent the 2013-14 season with Rogle in his home country’s Allsvenskan league, netting 16 goals and dishing out 20 assists for 36 points in 52 games played to finish second on his club in scoring. He added 6-16-22 in 16 playoff games, helping Rogle earn a berth in the Kvalserien tournament where they finished third.

In 2012-13, Zaar recorded 2-1-3 in 25 games with Rogle, who competed in the Swedish Hockey League that season. He also skated in 17 games with the club’s SuperElit (Junior/U-20) affiliate, registering 11-8-19 and a +7 plus/minus rating in 17 appearances.
