Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond is getting close -- perhaps very close -- to returning after a 21-game absence with a back injury.

No one is quite ready to publically declare Drummond ready to play but the rookie disclosed after Saturday's 92-91 win over Charlotte that he is going through full practices now and just is waiting for approval to rejoin the team after missing more than six weeks with a stress fracture in his fifth lumbar vertebra.

"As soon as I get the green light, you'll probably see me back on the floor," Drummond said.

Pistons coach Lawrence Frank, before Drummond was injured in a Feb. 3 game against the Los Angeles Lakers and shut down four days later, repeatedly said there were plans in place to accelerate Drummond's progress -- presumably meaning moving him into the starting lineup -- with consideration to various possibilities such as an unlikely playoff chase.
